Let’s take a look at early voting in the Democrat and Republican bases. Before we get to the numbers, realize that the GOP percentage of the vote in Washington/Ozaukee/Waukesha counties has not been constant and has accounted for a smaller share of the Republican vote in recent elections. Dane County, conversely, has become more crucial for the Democrats over time. However, also realize the Republicans are making a more concerted effort at early voting across the state, including in the Democratic bases in Dane and Milwaukee Counties.
Now, let’s take a look: Note, even though absentee ballots have been returned by mail to municipalities across the state for several days we will consider Tuesday, October 22 as Day 1, as it was the first day to vote absentee in-person.
We had reports of long lines in many areas across the state, and the results corroborate this.
With no pandemic restrictions in place, vote-by-mail is down significantly.
Here are the combined totals:
So, since all the politicos are going to do this anyway, let’s compare the raw votes from the base areas. How much of the statewide vote is coming from the “Blue” and “Red” areas?
Remember, here in Wisconsin voters are NOT registered by party and this does not mean these votes were cast for one party over another.
Our KEY TAKEAWAYS:
In-person early voting on Day 1 is 22% higher than in 2020.
Vote-by-mail totals by Day 1 are down 60 % from the 2020 pandemic.
The decrease in total early votes is greater in Dane and Milwaukee counties than in the WOW counties.
