The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is on the hunt for qualified candidates to join its Wolf Advisory Committee, a group tasked with shaping the state’s wolf management efforts. Applications are open through May 4, with a deadline of 11:59 p.m.
The committee plays a key role in carrying out the Wisconsin Wolf Management Plan, finalized in 2023. That plan lays out goals and strategies to steer wolf conservation and management across the state. Committee members will weigh in on policies, harvest quotas, season frameworks, and emerging wolf-related issues, offering recommendations to the DNR while fostering public awareness and input.
The advisory body will include DNR staff, representatives from government agencies, the Wisconsin Conservation Congress, Wisconsin’s Ojibwe tribes, and up to 10 stakeholder positions. Those stakeholder seats, limited to three-year terms, aim to reflect a wide range of perspectives through a competitive application process.

The 10 stakeholder spots will be split evenly across five categories: hunting and trapping, agricultural and ranching, environmental, conservation science and education, and at-large unaffiliated. Each category will have two representatives.
Detailed descriptions of these groups and eligibility requirements are available on the DNR’s Wolves in Wisconsin webpage under the Advisory Committee tab.
Serving on the committee demands a serious commitment. Members must attend all meetings, review materials in advance, and collaborate with others, even when opinions clash. The DNR is prioritizing applicants who can navigate tough conversations, grasp the thorny challenges of wolf management, and pursue practical, lasting solutions.
“Being a committee member is a privilege and requires significant time and work commitment,” the DNR noted in its announcement.
Interested applicants can find the committee charter, an FAQ, blank application forms, and the online application link on the Wolves in Wisconsin webpage under the Advisory Committee tab.
The deadline to apply is fast approaching, so stakeholders are urged to act quickly.
