That’s the rallying cry for this season’s Milwaukee Brewers, who lived up to the credo in a fantastic extra-innings win on Saturday night (They won again yesterday).
It also aptly describes the flow of political news lately. These are tumultuous times and there doesn’t appear to be calm on the horizon.
Sunday afternoon saw another massive disruption to the political landscape.
For the first time in 56 years, an incumbent announced he would not seek his party’s nomination for President. Unlike LBJ who made the announcement just prior to the Wisconsin Spring Primary in 1968 however, Joe Biden dropped his bombshell announcement in late July, a mere107 days before the general election. The fallout from his decision will obviously impact these Key Reads for the remainder of this year, and will have an even longer impact on history.
With Biden bowing out, the delegates to next month’s DNC in Chicago (home of the infamous 1968 convention as well) will have more power than they ever imagined. We let you know who they are, and if they’ve given any indication of their preference at this point. It has been said that Republicans fall in love with a candidate, while Democrats fall in line. That may already be happening here, too.
Here are the Democrats from Wisconsin who will be delegates at the Convention next month in Chicago. With President Joe Biden announcing Sunday that he’s withdrawing from the race, the nomination is up for grabs. These are the Wisconsinites who will attend the convention as delegates.
The Milwaukee delegates are already falling in line, casting their support for Vice President Harris. Mere hours after Biden’s letter was released to the public, they were posting on X.
Governor Evers didn’t pick a candidate, However, he posted on X his intention to only work on the presidential campaign in order to make sure Donald Trump doesn’t win in November “…I will spend every moment of every day for the next 107 days to defeat him.”
That doesn’t bode well for anyone looking for him to spend at least a few moments helping resolve the brewing scandals at his Department of Corrections and Milwaukee’s Public Schools, or attend to any other taxpayer-funded responsibilities.
Wisconsin won’t have to wait long for the new frontrunner for the Democratic nomination to visit the state. Before she arrives she’s picked up the endorsement of both Democratic members of Congress and the state’s Democratic US Senator.
Harris is scheduled to campaign in Milwaukee on Tuesday in what could be her first campaign stop after Biden said he was ending his reelection bid as a growing number of Democrats called on him to drop out.
…[US Senator Tammy] Baldwin endorsed Harris as she praised her work as California’s attorney general and as a U.S. senator. “She’s prepared, and I’m very proud to endorse her,” Baldwin said.
…”I know there will be lots and lots of conversations to happen in the coming hours and days,” [ Representative Mark] Pocan said. “But I certainly have every confidence in the vice president should she be the nominee.”
…And U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, a Milwaukee Democrat, said she “will support Vice President Harris as the Democratic nominee and will work hard to ensure Democrats win in 2024.”
