Warning: Election season is upon us.

The State Assembly has announced that tomorrow will be their last day in session for the term. They’re eager to go out and run in their newly-drawn legislative districts. The State Senate may still come back for a day or two in March. We’ll keep you posted.

In other campaign news, despite the traditional gatekeepers’ downplaying of the story, it looks like Wisconsin will have a competitive US Senate Race this fall.

Hovde said he was running for Senate to lower the national debt and invigorate the middle class. He also called for bipartisan solutions to secure the southern border and enact an international policy based on “peace through strength.”

“In the world of business, if you want to get things done, you have to compromise,” Hovde said. “I will work with anybody to try to advance the country and this state’s interests.”

Hovde said he would hold Baldwin accountable for her record in Congress over the past 25 years, accusing her of leaving the country “riddled with debt.” A multimillionaire, he also promised not to take corporate special interest money during the campaign.

“I can’t be bought and will not be bought,” Hovde said.

Here’s hoping the contest remains focused on issues that matter to all of us.

We know, we know… but we can hope, right?

While Democrat party operatives downplay Hovde’s chances, it’s clear Baldwin knows she has to work to win her third six-year Senate term.

That’s why Evers included Baldwin in an announcement of their own yesterday.

Gov. Evers Announces Support is Available for Many Northern Wisconsin Businesses Affected By Lack of Winter Snow – WEAU

Gov. Evers and Sen. Baldwin have been advocating for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to confirm this disaster coverage extends to businesses impacted by Wisconsin’s extraordinary winter conditions. Following those conversations, SBA has confirmed that they will consider business loss from recent low snowfalls over the winter months to be related to the drought and eligible for assistance. The lack of snow has impacted travel and recreation businesses that depend on it for activities such as downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.

WEAU

We’ve been covering this issue for the last few months. This announcement has as much to do with aid to Wisconsin business as it does about the power of incumbency. Evers didn’t have to include any federal lawmaker in this announcement. His promotion of Baldwin, like the traditional media’s downplaying of her opponents’ announcement, is deliberate.

The Wisconsin Senate is not a rubber stamp for the Governor’s political appointees, much to the chagrin of the Governor. That sentence is true every year, no matter who is the Governor or in charge of the Senate.

Wisconsin Senate turns down another Evers DNR board appointeeThe Center Square

The Senate on Tuesday voted 23-9 against Todd Ambs appointment to the natural resources board….Sen. Mary Felkzkowsi, R-Tomahawk, said the job of the Senate is to advise and consent on the governor’s appointees. She said their advice is that the governor appoint people who are not partisan or power-hungry.

“I concede that Todd Ambs has a lot of knowledge. Absolutely, he does. I know a lot of people that have a lot of knowledge – but when you have someone who is power-hungry at the DNR and does everything in his power to hurt the aquaculture industry in Northern Wisconsin, and basically sits back and says ‘Well, you guys don’t have the power. I do.’ I’ve been in those meetings with Todd Ambs on numerous occasions,” Felzkowski said.
