On Friday, the University of Wisconsin Men’s Basketball team delivered a historic performance, defeating Iowa 116-85. This game was remarkable for several reasons:
- Scoring Record: Wisconsin set a new Kohl Center record by scoring 116 points, the highest ever in a Big Ten game for the Badgers. This was also the most points scored by any Big Ten team in a conference game since Iowa’s 116 against Northwestern in 1995.
- Three-Point Barrage: The team broke the Big Ten record by making 21 three-pointers, surpassing their previous record of 18 against Nebraska. Nine different players contributed from beyond the arc.
- Individual Performances: Sophomore John Blackwell led the charge with a career-high 32 points, including 6-for-10 from three-point range, along with 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Nolan Winter scored 18 points on efficient 8-for-11 shooting, while Kamari McGee added 12 points, shooting 4-for-5 from three.
- Game Flow: The game was closely contested early on, with neither team leading by more than five points until Wisconsin pulled away with a 14-0 run before halftime, leading 54-43 at the break. They continued their dominance in the second half, outscoring Iowa 62-42.
- Defensive and Rebounding Effort: Wisconsin’s defense was solid, limiting Iowa to just 13-for-34 shooting in the second half, and they dominated the boards with a 37-21 rebounding edge.
- Milestones: This game marked the second time this season UW scored over 100 points, a feat not accomplished in a single season since 1995-96. It was also the first time since 1993 that Wisconsin scored over 100 in a Big Ten game.
This victory improved Wisconsin’s season record to 11-3, with their first Big Ten win of the season. The Badgers showcased not only their offensive firepower but also their ability to control the game on both ends of the court.
