Former Republican lawmaker Joe Handrick, an elections data guru and Minocqua native, has taken a look at the early vote numbers from across the state.

“I try not to read too much into early voting data, but this surge of rural in-person voting and sharp decline in mail-in voting from the cities is noteworthy.”

In addition to conversations with Dairyland Sentinel, he’s posted much of his analysis on the social media platform X.

*Remember, here in Wisconsin voters are NOT registered by party and this does not mean these votes were cast for one party over another. However, for the first time in the Trump era, the Republicans in Wisconsin have made a concerted effort to increase their early vote totals.

In contrast, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin has consistently focused on early efforts to get out the vote by mail and in-person absentee.

Political pundits from both parties expected a steep decline in the numbers of mail-in absentee ballots from the unusual spike which occurred during the pandemic in 2020.
