The thin Republican majority in the US House of Representatives just got a little thinner.
Wisconsin’s Rep. Mike Gallagher, who had already announced that he would not seek re-election, announced on Friday that he would not be sticking around to finish out his term. He’s stepping down in mid-April.

Rep. Mike Gallagher, a Wisconsin Republican who has spearheaded House pushback against the Chinese government, said Friday he would resign from the House, leaving House Republicans with the thinnest of majorities.
Gallagher, age 40, announced he would resign his position on April 19. It will leave Republicans with a 217-213 majority in the House, meaning that they cannot afford to lose more than one vote on a party-line vote. The thin majority has already proved to be a challenge for Republican leadership and forced House Speaker Mike Johnson to work with Democrats to pass practically any legislation.
It was a split weekend for men’s basketball fans in Wisconsin. The Badgers were upset by James Madison (the University, not the founding father) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament but the Marquette War, sorry, Golden Eagles, earned their first Sweet 16 bid since 2013.

The Marquette Golden Eagles received a sweet welcome home after earning a spot in the NCAA Sweet 16 Sunday.
The men’s basketball team was greeted by dozens of fans at the Al McGuire Center upon their return from Indianapolis where they won against the Colorado Buffaloes.
“I told my kids to get in the car because my son is on spring break and that we needed to go welcome them back,” Natalie Harris exclaimed alongside her family, decked out in Marquette gear.
She was one of many excited fans thrilled to see the team back in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2013.

The buzz has returned to diamonds across Wisconsin. Youth softball began a new season this past week, and the first pitches in baseball will be thrown in the coming days.
However, the officials with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) say the biggest complaint from school officials is an ongoing shortage of umpires who can capably call balls and strikes.
The Wisconsin Umpires Association seeks to change that.
For 12 consecutive Wednesdays, spanning from early January to late March, the WUA conducts a training program at Whitnall Middle School. It’s aimed at attracting and improving a new wave of baseball and softball umpries.
