Press Release

Madison- Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu (R-Oostburg) issued the following statement regarding the Senate’s action today:
“The legislature has passed hundreds of bills to solve problems facing Wisconsin businesses and families. Most of these bills were signed into law, but many were vetoed by a Governor more focused on politics than policies that help everyday Wisconsinites.
“Governor Evers vetoed bills that would have ensured access to healthcare in the Chippewa Valley and addressed PFAS contamination statewide. For months, the legislature has taken steps to get these crucial funds into communities that need them. Governor Evers has unilaterally stopped these crisis funds from helping Wisconsin communities.
“Overriding the Governor’s obstructive vetoes is the last, best way to address these critical issues.
“While Governor Evers plays politics, the legislature will continue to do the right thing on behalf of the people of our state.”
This session, the legislature voted to allocate $140 million to address the emergency healthcare shortage in the Chippewa Valley and PFAS contamination statewide. Governor Evers vetoed bills that would have authorized his administration to spend the funds. The Senate voted to override the Governor’s vetoes today on a 22-9 vote.
