Swing Left, a national group focused on mobilizing grassroots volunteers and donors to elect Democrats, announced its involvement in the April 1 Wisconsin Supreme Court election, marking it as the first competitive state race of 2025 with significant national implications.

The organization aims to prevent a conservative takeover of the court, which currently holds a 4-3 liberal majority. Swing Left says it will rally its network of 1 million members and over 450 volunteer-led groups to support liberal candidate Judge Susan Crawford through local, regional, and national volunteer efforts and grassroots fundraising.

Wisconsin, a key battleground state, has a history of close elections with far-reaching consequences.

“Less than a month into Trump’s second term, we’re all grappling with a mix of anger, dismay, disbelief, and anxiety. The reality is that the only way to truly stop Trump’s dangerous agenda is to secure power where it matters most—from states to Congress. Winning this race is a critical first step,” said Yasmin Radjy, Swing Left’s executive director.

Swing Left stressed the urgency of the race as it moved to activate liberals from across the country to get involved in the Wisconsin Supreme Court Election.

“This race is about more than just Wisconsin. Control of the House in 2026 and the White House in 2028 could be determined by Wisconsin’s courts,” said Radly.

From now until Election Day, Swing Left says it will have volunteers on the ground in Wisconsin to knock on doors. Across the country, their members will make phone calls, and write letters to voters to highlight the race’s importance. The group is also launching a letter-writing campaign through its affiliate, Vote Forward, at the end of February. With the election expected to be the most expensive judicial race in U.S. history—surpassing the $45 million spent in 2023—Swing Left is prioritizing grassroots fundraising to support Judge Crawford’s campaign and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.

“Democrats have shown we can win in Wisconsin—we flipped the court in 2023 and broke the GOP supermajority in 2024. But, this will still be a super close race. With millions pouring in from Republicans, we can’t afford to sit back. We need grassroots volunteers and donors to step up now to protect this progressive majority and prevent extremists from taking control,” Radjy said.

She added, “We are in a totally new political paradigm. To win back power in the midterms and beyond, Democrats can’t simply rinse and repeat. While we execute on the urgent work ahead, we also need to engage in some deep reflection and analysis of what structural and tactical changes are needed in how we engage in elections. At Swing Left, we’re doing our own analysis as well as organizing internally within the Democratic Party, pushing to improve its grassroots infrastructure, to ensure our impact is maximized in upcoming elections. In the meantime, we can’t wait around to get to work.”

In 2023, Swing Left contacted nearly 500,000 voters to flip the Wisconsin Supreme Court, making 172,000 calls, knocking on 4,600 doors, and writing over 317,000 letters through Vote Forward. Donors also contributed more than $127,000 to the effort.

The Wisconsin race is part of Swing Left’s broader 2025-2026 strategy to build Democratic power in state races and reclaim the U.S. House in the midterms. The group plans to share more details on its 2026 plans in the coming weeks.

Founded in 2017, Swing Left has grown into a major force in grassroots organizing, with its 1 million members donating over $140 million and making 50 million voter contacts to support Democrats in competitive races.
