Yesterday, just after we published our Key Reads, law enforcement began dismantling the illegal pro-Hamas tent encampment at the flagship University of Wisconsin – Madison campus.

The tent city on the Milwaukee campus remains. But here’s a plot twist, after global headlines touting the UW’s decision to finally enforce the law in Madison, authorities there allowed the very same protesters to erect new tents.

So what was the point of enforcing the law in the morning if you’re going to allow the law to be broken in the afternoon.

Add “real-life consequences” to the list of things kids don’t learn in college these days.

But hey, at least we all get to pay off their student loans so they can cosplay revolutionaries.

After police remove tents, make arrests, protesters at UW-Madison rebuild encampment | WPR

Police gave demonstrators staying at the encampment a warning to evacuate shortly before 7 a.m. By 9 a.m., all but two tents had been removed and police had left the area.

UW-Madison spokesperson John Lucas said 34 people were arrested Wednesday morning. Most were released without citations, but four demonstrators were taken to the Dane County Jail for resisting arrest and battery to a police officer.

…Two hours after the arrests, protesters began setting up a new encampment that quickly grew to more than a dozen tents. Leaders of the demonstration held trainings on how to resist further arrests.

During a press conference following the arrests, UW-Madison Police spokesperson Marc Lovicott said demonstrators are welcome as long they’re not camping.

“That’s the main reason why we were here today and what we enforced,” he told reporters. “We’re welcoming protesters and we’ve welcomed protesters here all along. You can’t camp here, though.”

But apparently they can camp there. The UW-Madison Chancellor and the Governor are sending mixed messages because they have no plan.

There’s no confusion on the Milwaukee campus, however. Everyone is aware that the administration there is allowing the demonstrators to break the law.

Student suspect shot, killed by police outside middle school during active shooter lockdown | Associated Press

Police shot and killed a student outside a Wisconsin middle school Wednesday after receiving a report of someone with a weapon, the state’s attorney general said in the first law enforcement briefing on gunshots that sent children fleeing and prompted an hourslong lockdown of local schools.

…Authorities described the student as a juvenile male but didn’t provide an age or indicate which of the Mount Horeb district’s schools he attended….Authorities said multiple Mount Horeb officers, wearing body cameras, had fired weapons but they did not say how many.

As our prayers are extended to all those involved in the incident ant the community as a whole, we also extend our appreciation for the law enforcement officers whose quick response and decisive action prevented this from becoming a much larger tragedy.

We’ll continue to follow this story as well as the circuses on the Milwaukee and Madison campuses. Any breaking news will be posted on the main Dairyland Sentinel site during the day; and, we’ll be back with another installment of our Key Reads tomorrow morning.
