The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s student-run radio station, 90FM WWSP, is gearing up for the 55th annual World’s Largest Trivia Contest, set to take place April 11-13, 2025. Known for its grueling 54-hour format, the event draws thousands of participants from across the globe to test their knowledge, reflexes and endurance.

The contest, which began in 1969, has grown into a celebrated tradition, earning its title as the world’s largest trivia competition. Hosted each spring, it challenges teams with eight questions per hour, broadcast over 90FM’s airwaves. Participants have the duration of two songs—roughly five to seven minutes—to call in their answers. Points are awarded based on accuracy and speed, with top teams vying for trophies and bragging rights. Over the years, highlights have included unique elements like music montages, scavenger-hunt-style “trivia stone” questions and running challenges that send players into the Stevens Point community to uncover answers.

Historically, the contest has attracted a diverse range of competitors, from seasoned teams playing since the 1970s to newcomers forming groups on the fly. It has adapted over time, going fully virtual in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and returning to an in-person format by 2023. Last year’s event, “Trivia 54: Very Superstitious,” held April 12-14, 2024, saw teams tackle a theme-inspired twist that kept players on their toes.

Anyone can participate, whether local or remote. Teams of any size are welcome, and out-of-town players can join via the 90FM webstream at 90fmtrivia.org. No prior experience is required, though organizers recommend having a recording device handy for audio-based questions. The contest is open to all ages and backgrounds, making it a family-friendly event as well as a competitive showdown for trivia buffs.

The event kicks off with a parade at 4 p.m. Friday, April 11, starting on Maria Drive north of campus. Questions begin at 6 p.m. and continue nonstop until midnight Sunday, April 13. Trivia-themed merchandise will be available for purchase during registration and online.
