Tuesday brings a grab bag of stories from around the state.

It’s a very workman-like Key Reads today…

This is a very cool story.

Racine veterans need help saving the oldest living memorial float in America | WTMJ4

It’s a legacy dating back to the 1920s and a big crowd-pleaser for thousands in Racine, but the veterans who run the Boys of 76 float need help keeping the tradition going.

For 100 years the veterans at American Legion Post 310 have maintained America’s oldest living memorial float, captivating generations of parade-goers…It’s a tradition Weidner and his fellow veterans told TMJ4’s Tahleel Mohieldin they’ll need help to maintain. Many of the parts keeping the float together are practically just as old as the tradition which makes affordable replacements hard to come by.

It is getting more expensive for renters in Wisconsin. Significantly more expensive.

Our sturgeon spearfishing tradition can, thankfully, continue.

Prehistoric lake sturgeon is not endangered, US says despite calls from conservationists | AP

Lake sturgeon don’t need Endangered Species Act protections, federal wildlife officials announced Monday, saying that stocking programs have helped the prehistoric fish return to areas where they had vanished.

The decision ends the Arizona-based Center of Biological Diversity’s petition filed in May 2018 asking the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to list lake sturgeon as endangered or threatened. Such listings would make harvesting the fish illegal, but without them, popular sturgeon harvest seasons in states such as Wisconsin and Michigan can continue.

This last bit of news could take some getting used to.

Source: Green Bay Packers Adding White Alternate Helmet | UniWatch

The Packers, he says, are getting a white alternate helmet…While a white Packers helmet may sound heretical, there’s actually some precedent for it. The team went with white lids in 1957 and ’58…It’s not clear whether the Packers are planning a late-1950s throwback or if they have something else in mind. It’s worth noting that their Color Rush uniform, which they last wore in 2022, is white over white, so a white helmet would pair well with that.

Now, if only they’d ditch the striping on the helmet and pants…

Anyway, that’s plenty to take in on a Tuesday. We’ll be back again, tomorrow.
