DANE, Wis. — A Wisconsin favorite is once again making national headlines. J. Henry & Sons of Dane has been nominated for the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Award for Best Craft Whiskey Distillery in the United States — a recognition that places this family-run operation among the top names in American craft spirits.

“Such an honor to be recognized with this group of fabulous craft whiskies,” Liz Henry posted on Facebook. Henry and her husband Joe are the distillery’s founders.

Farm-to-Bottle Roots

Founded by Joe and Liz Henry, J. Henry & Sons operates on a fifth-generation family farm about 20 miles north of Madison. Long before the distillery gained national acclaim, the Henrys were growing heirloom red corn on the same land that now supplies the base for their whiskey. Every step, from grain to barrel, happens on the property, underscoring the family’s commitment to local agriculture and quality craftsmanship.

The Henrys’ farm-to-bottle approach has become their signature. Their bourbon is made from Wisconsin-grown corn, rye, and wheat, then aged for at least five years in charred oak barrels. The family says the state’s unique climate, with its wide swings in temperature, creates the perfect environment for rich, complex whiskey.
